She was convinced something was stuck in her throat. As it turned out, she was right. Verdon continued to perform until no sound would come out of her mouth and the pain was unbearable. She took a week off the show to get it surgically removed.
Late in the Broadway run, Verdon started to get tired. At one performance, a gentleman noticed the song had suddenly been cut and expressed his unhappiness by writing a letter to Verdon complaining about the missing song. He claimed he spent hard-earned money to see her perform and felt cheated. Verdon decided to find out how much time the song took to perform and factored that against the price of a ticket.
The national tour of the revival was set to launch in Washington, D. After the final rehearsal, Fosse and Verdon decided to walk back to their hotel to change for opening night. Tragedy struck when Fosse suffered a heart attack. However, before then, a slew of actresses had been named to be the titular dance hall hostess with the mostest. In early , it was rumored that Paula Abdul would star in a revival and choreograph it. However, Elfman backed out and it was announced that Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei would make her Broadway musical debut in the lead role.
Sadly, the workshops had not been going well, and Tomei was told she would not continue with the production. She also majorly clashed with Simon. Did you know Edit. Trivia Shirley MacLaine was working with a painful infected tooth that required root canal treatment, yet she was such a trouper that she kept it a secret so as not to hold up production.
She wrote that she was in so much pain, she could't even remember filming one of the exhausting Bob Fosse dance numbers. Goofs In the "Aloof" movement of "The Rich Man's Frug," two of the male principal dancers walk down the stairs to light a woman's cigarette, while the others dance behind them.

And yeah, a couple of the numbers have certainly dated hearing Sammy Davis tell a bunch of Broadway Hippies to "Sock it to me" in the "Rhythm of Life" number is worth a major eye-roll , plus Fosse's attempts to do uh La Jetee type still image montages at a couple of points.
